If you want to acquire a HGV C, CE or a C1 (7.5T) licence, you will have to complete the following:
- Medical and licence application: you can complete this on your own or we can do it for you. With our in-house doctor, we will assist you with the relevant paperwork.
- Theory test: you will have to pass an LGV multiple question test and a hazard perception test. You can book your own online at https://www.gov.uk/book-theory-test
or let us offer the service.
- Driving course with an Off Road test and Road Drive test: The length of your course will depend on the category of licence you plan to do. You must first pass the 3a Off Road test (reverse/coupling) before being allowed to take the 3b On Road test.
A basic guide of hours - A standard C1 course is 15 hours.
A standard HGV C course is 18 hours.
A standard HGV CE from C licence is 18 hours.
A standard HGV CE from car licence is 30 hours.
We have our own reverse training pad and hope to be able to conduct our own module 3a Off Road tests from the spring 2022.
3b On Road tests are conducted at a DVSA Test Centre with external examiners.
Acquiring a C1 licence enables you to drive ambulances, small horse boxes, motorhomes and some large vans.

Our HGV C and CE is a 1-8 manual gear box.
Our CE vehicle is a drawbar.
Our lorries are specially designed for driver training making your learning easier and safer on the roads.
*NEW RULES FOR CE LICENCES FROM NOVEMBER 2021*
If you hold a HGV C provisional and you wish to change to do your CE, will need to email the DVSA to request the CE provisional entitlement is put onto your licence. Instructions how to do this are on www.gov.uk, under driving licences.
If you hold a current C licence, and have the C+E provisional entitlement on your licence you can go straight to driver training without theory tests.
